My ALL-TIME NFL team
April 14, 2009
People ask me all the time, in your opinion who's the best at so-and-so position? It makes for good sports talk and your bound to have some biases in some people no matter who you root for. So here's my 1st and 2nd team All-time. Also, i'm omitting active players in this because they could improve. It's better to just wait until their careers are over.
1st team offense
QB: Joe Montana, San Fran/KC
RB: Jim Brown, Cleve
RB: Barry Sanders, Det
WR: Jerry Rice, SF
WR: Cris Carter, Minn
TE: Shannon Sharpe, Den (once Gonzalez is done, likely he will be here)
T: Anthony Munoz, Cincy
T: Ron Yary, Minn
G: John Hannah, NE
G: Gene Upshaw, Oak
C: Mike Webster, Pit/KC
Defense
DE: Reggie White, Phi/GB/Car
DT: Joe Greene, Pit
DT: Alan Page, Minn
DE: Bruce Smith, Buf
LB: Lawrence Taylor, NYG
LB: Mike Singletary, Chi
LB: Dick Butkus, Chi
CB: Deion Sanders, Atl/SF/Dal/Balt
CB: Rod Woodson, Pit/Oak/SF/Balt
SS: Ronnie Lott, SF
FS: Paul Krause, Minn/Wash
K: Morten Andersen, Atl
2nd team
QB: John Elway, Den
RB: Walter Payton, Chi
RB: Emmitt Smith, Dal
WR: Lance Alworth, SD/Oak
WR: Michael Irvin, Dal
TE: Kellen Winslow, SD
T: Dan Dierdorf, StL
T: Art Shell, Oak
G: Mike Munchak, Hou
G: Bruce Matthews, Hou/Ten
C: Dermontti Dawson, Pit
defense
DE: Deacon Jones
DT: Randy White, Dal
DT: Merlin Olsen, LA
DE: Michael Strahan, NYG
LB: Jack Lambert, Pit
LB: Ray Nitschke, GB
LB: Derrick Thomas, KC
CB: Darrell Green, Wash
CB: Dick "Night Train" Lane, Det
S: Willie Wood, GB
S: Larry Wilson, StL
K: Gary Anderson, Pit/Minn/Ten
There you go, let the debating begin. A lot of you may not know who some of these old time players are, look them up. Now, based on some the players who are still playing I'd probably put Brady, Tomlinson, Marvin Harrison, T.O (maybe), Tony Gonzalez, Alan Faneca, Ray Lewis, Troy Polamalu and/or Ed Reed on these lists.
