Offensive Tackles
Should be another good class for Offensive tackles. They are always in high demand so I see a bunch going early in the 1st round. After that, it's pretty much a crapshoot. Heights and weights, 40 times (useless for lineman), reps of 225, and arm lengths (longer arms usually lead to a better chance of the Tackle not getting beaten)
1. Jason Smith - Baylor
6'5 309, 40-yd dash: 5.14, reps of 225: 33, arms: 33.75
projected: top 5 pick
overall: Smith may be the 1st player selected. A former TE, Smith is very athletic and should be a supreme pass protector for a decade. There's a very low chance he will be a bust. If you would have a pick a weakness (maybe), it might be his inability to completely dominate in run blocking. Other than that, nothing.
2. Eugene Monroe - Virginia
6'5 312, 40-yd dash: 5.16, reps of 225: 23, arms: 33.75
projected: top 10 pick
overall: A little overshadowed by Jason Smith and his awesome workouts, Monroe should be gone by pick #6. He is very similar to Smith, a Left Tackle pass blocking machine. Another very low bust rate on this guy and he may end up being the best in this class when all is said and done.
3. Michael Oher - Ole Miss
6'5 309, 40-yd dash: 5.16, reps of 225: 23, arms: 33.5
projected: 1st round
overall: All-American lineman who could have come out last year and most likely still been a 1st round pick. Oher can play either Tackle position. Knock on him about his overall intelligence and consistency, but I believe he will be fine. Should be very solid.
4. Andre Smith - Alabama
6'4 325, 40-yd dash: 5.25 (projected), arms: 35.4
projected: 1st round
overall: Smith was dominating last year at 'Bama and ended up winning the Outland trophy for the nations top lineman. His failure to get into shape for the combine have lots of people questioning his work ethic issues. However, on game film its hard to debate he crushed everyone into the ground last year. If he keeps his head screwed on and work hard, should not be a problem. Due to his size and lack of speed, should play RT or Right Guard.
5. William Beatty - Uconn
6'6 307, 40-yd dash: 5.12, reps of 225: 27, arms: 34.75
projected: 1st round
overall: Beatty is an athletic Left tackle who would be perfect for a zone-blocking scheme. He might not be dominate at first, but he has a very strong upside.
6. Eben Britton - Arizona
6'6 309, 40-yd dash: 5.15, reps of 225: 24, arms: 32.75
projected: 1st round
overall: Britton is another athletic Tackle that can play the left side or the right side. Biggest concern may be his shorter arms that could hinder his pass blocking.
7. Jamon Meredith - South Carolina
6'5 304, 40-yd dash: 5.03, reps of 225: 31, arms: 34.5
projected: 2nd round
overall: In any other year, I believe Meredith would be a 1st round lock. But this year with 6 other tackles ahead of him, could be chosen in round 2. It's unclear what side Meredith is projected to play on.
8. Phil Loadholt - Oklahoma
6'8 332, 40-yd dash: 5.45, reps of 225: 26, arms: 36.5
projected: 2nd-3rd round
overall: Loadholt is a massive Left Tackle that anchored college footballs best Offensive Line last year. An absolute mauler and powerful run blocker. Knock on him is a lack of footspeed that could cause him to be beaten by smaller, quicker pass rushers.
9. Gerald Cadogan - Penn st
6'5 309, 40-yd dash: 5.12, reps of 225: 26, arms: 35
projected: 2nd-3rd round
overall: Cadogan is a projected Left Tackle who's been really shooting up the draft boards based on his workouts. He's very solid fundamentally.
10. Troy Kropog - Tulane
6'5 309, 40-yd dash: 5.32, reps of 225: 21, arms: 33.5
projected: 2nd-3rd round
overall: Kropog is projected to be a perfect fit for a zone blocking type of team. Athletic quick tackle.
11. Fenuki Tupou - Oregon
6'5 314, 40-yd dash: 5.2, reps of 225: 24, arms: 34
projected: 2nd-3rd round
overall: Tupou is a projected mauling type of Right Tackle who's pretty athletic and quick at the same time. Still a bit raw
12. TJ Lang - Eastern Michigan
6'4 312, 40-yd dash: 5.0 (projected) (on rise)
projected: 3rd-4th round
notes: Quicker lineman who is a solid blocker...could be a real asset to the team that drafts him because he can play any position on the line.
13. Xavier Fulton - Illinois
6'4 302, 40-yd dash: 5.04, reps of 225: 27, arms: 33.5
projected: 3rd-4th round
notes: zone-blocking, athletic style lineman
14. Cornelius Lewis - Tennessee st
6'4 336, 40-yd dash: 5.21, reps of 225: 31, arms: 33.5
projected: 4th-5th round
notes: Former Florida st transfer who thrived at I-AA Tenn st...big physical run blocking RT
15. Sebastian Vollmer - Houston
6'8 312, 40-yd dash: 5.13, reps of 225: 32
projected: 4th-5th round
notes: Perfect-sized tackle who could be a bigtime sleeper
16. Joel Bell - Furman
6'7 315, 40-yd dash: 5.15, reps of 225: 29, arms: 34
projected: 5th round
notes: Interesting consistant I-AA tackle that will most likely project to RT...raw but has a good upside
17. Jason Watkins - Florida
6'6 318, 40-yd dash: 5.47, reps of 225: 19, arms: 34.4
projected: 5th round
notes: Tackle prospect that can play either side...only 19 reps of 225 raises strength concerns
18. Augustus Parrish - Kent st
6'4 302, 40-yd dash: 5.34, reps of 225: 21, arms: 35
projected: 5th round
notes: Good run blocker...more fit for zone blocking style...at the combine, showed a lack of footspeed and overall quickness
19. Garrett Reynolds - North Carolina
6'8 309, 40-yd dash: 5.32, reps of 225: 19, arms: 34.5
projected: 5th-6th round
notes: RT prospect who has strength and quickness concerns
20. Lydon Murtha - Nebraska
6'7 306, 40-yd dash: 4.89, reps of 225: 25, arms: 33.8
projected: 6th round
notes: I know 40's don't really matter for lineman, but a tackle running a 4.89 40 is flat-out flying....zone blocking lineman
21. Andrew Gardner - Georgia Tech
6'7 304, 40-yd dash: 4.96, arms: 34.5 (on rise)
projected: 6th round
notes: Prospect on the rise due to good workouts...athletic zone-blocking style tackle who was as consistant as they come in college...good run blocker
22. Ryan Stanchek - West Virginia
6'4 301, 40-yd dash: 5.2 (projected)
projected: 6th-7th round
notes: Was never injured in his 4 years at WVU....consistant LT who projects as a zone blocking lineman...struggled last year with a new system
23. Phil Trautwein - Florida
6'6 308, 40-yd dash: 5.36, reps of 225: 23
projected: 6th-7th round
notes: RT at Florida who specialized in run blocking....the fact he was whistled for 4 false starts in the National Title game didn't help
24. Andrew Hartline - Western Michigan
6'5 294, 40-yd dash: 5.1 (projected)
projected: 6th-7th round
notes: zone blocking lineman who is very raw and may need to pack on a little weight
25. Robert Brewster - Ball st
6'4 325, 40-yd dash: 5.31, reps of 225: 23, arms: 34
projected: 6th-7th round
notes: Good pass blocking lineman who's very solid...very nice upside
26. Lance Louis - San Diego st
6'3 303, 40-yd dash: 4.76, reps of 225: 30
projected: 6th-7th round
notes: Louis has most likely vaulted himself into a position to be drafted based on his lateral quickness
Others:
Alex Boone - Ohio st 6'7 328, 40-yd dash: 5.17, reps of 225: 33, arms: 34.3 (projected: 7th)
