Tight Ends

Ok, on to TE's. This is a position that has been on the rise lately with the infusion of faster, pass catching TE's replacing the FB in a lot of offenses.  This class is a little down this year. There are some solid players who will be drafted in the first 3 rounds, but maybe not one true gamebreaking TE. The depth of TE's in the later rounds isn't the greatest either. Listed below are heights and weights, 40-yard dash times, # of repetitions of 225, and vertical leaps.

1. Brandon Pettigrew - Oklahoma st

6'5 263, 40-yd dash: 4.85, reps of 225: 22, vertical leap: 33 in

projected: late 1st-early 2nd round

overall: Pettigrew is the best prospect in this class bar-none. Has a very good all-around game: good hands and a solid blocker. Not truly fast, but not slow. Will be a good asset to a team with an accomplished QB and a couple weapons at WR.

2. Jared Cook - South Carolina

6'5 246, 40-yd dash: 4.5, reps of 225: 23, vertical leap: 41 in

projected: 2nd round

overall: Bigtime pass-catching TE with very good speed. May have to pack on a little more weight. Heck of an athlete in the Kellan Winslow mold. When all is said and done, may end up being the best TE in this class.

3. Travis Beckum - Wisconsin

6'3 243, 40-yd dash: 4.61, reps of 225: 28, vertical leap: 38.5 in

projected: 3rd round

notes: Recieving-style TE...really needs some more bulk on his frame...quick TE who can find the open zone in the defense easily

4. Chase Coffman - Missouri

6'6 247, 40-yd dash: 4.8 (projected)

projected: 3rd-4th round

overall: One of the most productive TE's in college football last year, Coffman was a redzone killer for defenses. There are some things he needs to work on: run blocking and speed, but his 6'6 frame should make him a redzone target right away.

5. Shawn Nelson - Southern Miss

6'5 240, 40-yd dash: 4.56, reps of 225: 19, vertical leap: 33 in

projected: 3rd-4th round

notes: Another speedy recieving-style TE who may need to add some weight...strength and blocking ability is a bit of a concern

6. James Casey - Rice

6'3 243, 40-yd dash: 4.78, reps of 225: 28, vertical leap: 36 in

projected: 3rd-4th round

notes: good all-around TE who spent some years playing baseball in the minor leagues before he dcided on football..speed won't wow people, but is a solid blocker

7. Cornelius Ingram - Florida

6'4 245, 40-yd dash: 4.68, reps of 225: 21, vertical leap: 33 in

projected: 4th round

notes: Good prospect that would be higher had he not gotten hurt his entire Sr year at Florida with an ACL tear..could be a potential sleeper in this draft class

8. Davon Drew - East Carolina

6'4 256, 40-yd dash: 4.78, reps of 225: 18, vertical leap: 31.5 in

projected: 4th-5th round

notes: Blocking-type TE who needs to work on his pass catching ability...good potential but needs to get stronger

9. John Phillips - Virginia

6'5 251, 40-yd dash: 4.79, reps of 225: 20, vertical leap: 33.5 in

projected: 5th-6th round

notes: Had a very strong last year in his only real action at Virginia..solid blocker but overall speed will hurt him a bit

10. Marquez Branson - Central Arkansas

6'2 247, 40-yd dash: 4.71, reps of 225: 22, vertical leap: 35 in

projected: 6th round

notes: Since when did Central Arkansas become a football factory? Their QB and TE both are going to be drafted in the same year...Anyways, Branson had a great Sr year with 11 TD's to boot...had a solid pro day but may need to gain a little weight

11. Jared Bronson - Central Washington

6'4 253, 40-yd dash: 4.76

projected: 6th round

notes: Was Central Washington's main weapon in the passing game, if that means anything...a solid #2 TE at best

12. Bear Pascoe - Fresno st

6'5 251, 40-yd dash: 4.89, reps of 225: 14, vertical leap: 30.5 in

projected: 6th-7th round

notes: Yes, this guy's name is actually Bear, that's awesome...Well, Bear is going to have to step up his blocking abilities if he wants to get drafted or succeed because his 40 time was very slow...still, i think someone will take a chance in the later rounds and see if the Bear can "maul" his way to a roster spot.

13. Darius Hill - Ball st

6'6 246, 40-yd dash: 4.72, vertical leap: 31 in

projected: 6th-7th round

notes: Was maybe the best TE/H-back in MAC history, this guy can really play...big target, but overall speed may be a concern..will thrive in the right system

14. Dan Gronkowski - Maryland

6'6 255, 40-yd dash: 4.78, reps of 225: 26, vertical leap: 33 in

projected: 6th-7th round

notes: Big target who will be a blocking-type TE and possible red-zone weapon

16. Kevin Brock - Rutgers

6'6 255, 40-yd dash: 4.64, reps of 225: 23, vertical leap: 34 in

projected: 6th-7th round

notes: Little-known TE who was overshadowed by WR's Underwood and Britt...quick but inconsistant

17. Cameron Morrah - California

6'3 244, 40-yd dash: 4.61, reps of 225: 24

projected: 6th-7th round

notes: came out a year early for whatever reason...had just average numbers in his career at Cal..showed good speed but undersized

18. Kory Sperry - Colorado st

6'5 238, 40-yd dash: 4.77, reps of 225: 20, vertical leap: 33.5 in

projected: 6th-7th round

notes: Had a good Sr year...look for the undersized Sperry to be an H-back kind of TE if he's picked up

19. Anthony Hill - NC state

6'5 262, 40-yd dash: 4.81, reps of 225: 21

projected: 6th-7th

notes: Had a breakout year for NC state in 2006, but has since been desimated with injuries

Others:

Ryan Purvis - Boston College  6'4 254, 40-yd dash: 4.95, reps of 225: 19, vertical leap: 29 in (projected: 7th)
