RB's and FB's

The Running back class is once again pretty good. You got your 2 for sure 1st rounders (Wells and Moreno), a couple decent 2nd rounders, and a lot of potential steals in the middle rounds of the draft. The Fullback class, as usual, only has 1 or 2 players who will start for a team as it's a dying position. Players are here with heights and weights, how many repetitions they did with the standard 225-pounds, as well as their vertical leap and standing broad jump numbers.

RB's

1. Knowshon Moreno - Georgia

5'11 217, 40-yd dash: 4.5, reps of 225: 25, vertical leap: 35.5 in, broadjump: 9-7

projected: 1st round

overall: No doubt Moreno was productive as hell in college. He's an electrifying RB with a flurry of moves to get away from tacklers. Has great hands out of the backfield. His lack of breakaway will cost him from being a surefire top 10 in the draft. He's my #1 RB in this draft. Bigtime leader.

2. Chris Wells - Ohio st

6'1 235, 40-yd dash: 4.52, reps of 225: 25, vertical leap: 33.5 in., broadjump: 10-8

projected: 1st round

overall: Wells has a great combination of size and speed that a Running back needs to be top-notch in the NFL. He was extremely productive and tough to bring down when he wasn't hurt. Injuries are a concern with him as are his hands out of the backfield as well as his maturity. When he's playing well and running inside the tackles is when Wells as at his best.

3. Donald Brown - Uconn

5'10 210, 40-yd dash: 4.46, vertical leap: 41.5 in, broadjump: 10-5

projected: late 1st/early 2nd round

overall: Brown has been shooting up the boards lately. He's a quick, athletic back that can also step in the middle of a defense and take a pounding as he did in college. Led college football with 2066 yds last year. Brown may have to put on some weight, but he's built low to the ground and displays good toughness at his weight now and displays great balance

 4. LeShon McCoy - Pitt

5'10 204, 40-yd dash: 4.52, vertical leap: 29 in, broadjump: 8-11, reps of 225: 17

projected: 2nd round

overall: McCoy is a lean back. His best weapon is probably his speed, as he does lack size. He displays good field vision and has a blue-collar work ethic about him. McCoy can turn the corner on a defense but won't outrun the defense. He has good hip movement to make football moves in the open field. Won't break many tackles but does have good lower-body strength. McCoy had some problems fumbling in college. All in all he really should be more of a scat-back type of player who should be used in connection with a big back as i question whether he can handle the rock more than 20 plus times per game in the NFL.

5. Rashad Jennings - Liberty

6'1 231, 40-yd dash: 4.52, reps of 225: 29, broadjump: 10-0

projected: 2nd-3rd round

notes: Former RB at Pitt...ran for 1526 yds and 17 TD's last year...very thick frame with big strong hands so fumbling is not a problem...big frame, has had better work ethic recently, but his cutting isn't as smooth as you would like from a 231 lb back.,..a pound it up the middle runner with a surprising burst that he uses to break tackles easily...very good reciever out of the backfield....not really elusive in any way and blocking could be worked on...could be a very effective back in this league if he's used the right way

6. Andre Brown - NC state

6'0 224, 40-yd dash: 4.37, reps of 225: 24, vertical leap: 37 in., broadjump: 9-7

projected: 2nd-3rd round

notes: Good vision, a solidly-built RB frame..shows good competiveness and is very coachable...explosive first step..breaks tackles extremely well and runs inside hard...limited speed to the corner and cutback ability is just average...fumbles at times...raw as a recieving threat, but not bad...2 injuries to foot...a nice complimentary runner to a speed back

7. Shonn Greene - Iowa

5'11 227, 40-yd dash: 4.55, reps of 225: 19, vertical leap: 39 in., broadjump: 10-1

projected: 3rd round

notes: Extremely productive and consistant in college...straight downhill in-your-face style runner...quick but not fast and shows decent elusiveness...has a number of weaknesses including football sense, bad hands, and poor pass-blocking ability...hard worker

8. Cedric Peerman - Virginia

5'10 216, 40-yd dash: 4.34, reps of 225: 27, vertical leap: 40 in, broadjump: 9-9

projected: 3rd-4th round

notes: shows good hands and a nice shiftiness to his game...unfortunately, he's combine fast but he's not gamespeed fast...short framed back..lacks explosiveness and doesn't turn the corner despite his speed...good leader/work habits...better when running inside and always falls forward..needs to work on blocking...lots of red flags on this guy that would have me worried drafting in 3rd or 4th round

9. Javon Ringer - Michigan st

5'9 205, 40-yd dash: 4.55, reps of 225: 23, vertical leap: 34 in, broadjump: 9-7

projected: 3rd-4th round

notes: Great Senior year in college originally vaulted him up draft boards...small compact runner with pretty good lower body strength...perfect teammate and has good football smarts...not great breakaway speed, but it's deceptive...cant turn the corner on D...great vision...solid recieving skills..just got over knee surgery...good value in 3rd or 4th round

10. Kory Sheets - Purdue

5'11 208, 40-yd dash: 4.39, reps of 225: 15, vertical leap: 37 in, broadjump: 10-1

projected: 4th-5th round

notes: very agile, lean runner who has the speed to outrun the defense, but has to get going to reach max speed...showed good kick return ability at Senior bowl...was banned from talking to media after trashing teammates...good competitor but needs to work on maturity...must put on some pounds...shows good acceleration...doesn't break tackles...good reciever for screens

11. Antone Smith - Florida st

5'8 191, 40-yd dash: 4.33, reps of 225: 32, vertical leap: 36 in, broadjump: 10-2  (on rise)

projected: 5th round

notes: A quick tough back that has seen his stock skyrocket after a great combine...picks a hole and hits it with accelration...runs with a low base and can run inside...must adjust to a pro-style offensive attack...pass blocking isn't good...should make his way onto a roster as a change of pace

12. James Davis - Clemson

5'11 218, 40-yd dash: 4.45, reps of 225: 17

projected: 5th round

notes: Hits the whole quick...good lower body allows him to run through tackles...great elusiveness...not great inside runner all the time...not greatest reciever and pass blocker...Davis is one of those players who adds solid depth at their position or they're looking for another job in a few years

13. Mike Goodson - Texas A&M

6'0 208, 40-yd dash: 4.43, reps of 225: 14, vertical leap: 39.5 in, broadjump: 9-10

projected: 5th round

notes: Typical athletic, speedy back that will most likely need to put on more weight...is pretty explosive..demanded the ball a lot during college years/questions with coachability...has had injury problems...excellent accerlation to take anything to the house...good balance but will have trouble running up the middle....doesn't have a lot of moves, will just flat out fly...excellent recieving skills out of the backfield, could be a slot guy...typical home run hitter with limited strength and not much more

14. Glen Coffee - Alabama

6'0 209, 40-yd dash: 4.5, reps of 225: 24, vertical leap: 36 in, broadjump: 10-1

projected: 5th-6th round

notes: Should have stayed another year at 'Bama..weight room beast who pounds defenses up the middle...was suspended in 2007 but since has been a leader...body type is all upper body strength...quick but not much straight line speed...good habits and football IQ...fall forward runner...not quite comfortable going outside...ran over defenders in college, but likely not going to happen in the nfl...needs to work on ball security...Coffee has the work ethic and ability to have a spot in the league, but he will be a raw prospect

15. Ian Johnson - Boise st

5'11 212, 40-yd dash: 4.41, reps of 225: 26, vertical leap: 33 in, broadjump: 9-8

projected: 5th-6th round

notes: Worked really hard to get his weight up to 212...declined throughout his 4 years of collegiate play...slim RB but has good strength despite that/blue collar guy...perfect behavior...decent accerlation but comes off the line a bit slow...good speed going around corner but not elite...solid vision/awareness...below average blocker in pass situations...Johnson is a good team player, but nothing really special about him...may have to shine on special teams

16. Javarris Williams - Tennessee st

5'10 223, 40-yd dash: 4.51, reps of 225: 25, vertical leap: 33.5 in, broadjump: 9-8

projected: 6th round

notes: One of many prospects coming out of I-AA Tenn st...north-south runner who could maybe pack on more weight...great character guy/high football IQ...limited burst but good low to the ground body...breaks tackles often...had some fumbling problems...despite size, good pass catcher...Williams could really be a decent steal in 6th round, isn't a great all-around back but could be effective

17. Jeremiah Johnson - Oregon

5'9 209, 40-yd dash: 4.57, reps of 225: 20

projected: 6th round

notes: Injury-ridden career at Oregon...shows good burst and balance, breaking fair share of tacklers...good recieving abilities...dances around too much in backfield...will have to adjust from playing in just a spread offense

18. Arian Foster - Tennessee

6'1 215, 40-yd dash: 4.69, reps of 225: 23, vertical leap: 32 in, broadjump: 9-7

projected: 6th round

19. Devin Moore - Wyoming

5'9 192, 40-yd dash: 4.41, reps of 225: 27, vertical leap: 35 in, broadjump: 10-0

projected: 6th-7th round

notes: intriging prospect from non-BCS school who's speed alone will get him drafted

20. Gartrell Johnson - Colorado st

5'10 219, 40-yd dash: 4.67, reps of 225: 20, vertical leap: 34 in, broadjump: 9-6

projected: 7th round

notes: Hard-nosed RB who will try to bull over anyone despite being a leaner 219 lbs...speed concerns

Others:

Keegan Herring - Arizona st  5'9 203, 40-yd dash: 4.47, reps of 225: 24, vertical leap: 34.5 in, broadjump: 10-3  (7th round)

PJ Hill - Wisconsin  5'11 222, 40-yd dash: 4.63, reps of 225: 16, vertical leap: 37 in, broadjump: 10-2 (projected: 7th-FA)

Tyrell Sutton - Northwestern  5'8 211, 40-yd dash: 4.64, reps of 225: 12, vertical leap: 33 in (projected: 7th-FA)

Fullbacks

1. Quinn Johnson - LSU

6'1 246, 40-yd dash: 4.72, reps of 225: 16

projected: 5th-6th round

notes: Neck and neck with Southerland right now for the drafts top FB...only 16 reps of 225 raises a little concern

2. Brennan Southerland - Georgia

6'0 242, 40-yd dash: 4.53, reps of 225: 29, vertical leap: 38 in, broadjump: 10-0, 4.24 shuttle

projected: 6th round

Pros: quick feet for a big man and is a smart player. Tough blocker, runs hard and moves the pile

Cons: not going to be used for anything other than short yardage.

Opinion: Southerland is maybe the best pure FB in this draft in my opinion. He should be around in the league for a long decent career blocking.

4. Jorvorskie Lane - Texas A&M

6'0 285, 40-yd dash: 4.8 (projected)

projected: 6th-7th round

notes: Absolute mauler who also was a goalline and short yardage running back at A&M
